At around 8:30 on Friday, San Mateo police officers pulled over a car due to the registered owner/occupant having an outstanding misdemeanor warrant near South Humboldt Street and Third Avenue.
The driver of the vehicle, according to the SMPD, stopped the car and then fled on foot carrying a satchel. Police said the suspect stopped running near the 1000 block of Second Avenue. Police said he was “appearing to access something inside of the satchel.”
Officers commanded the suspect to stop reaching into his satchel several times, according to police. An officer subsequently deployed his taser. San Maeto PD said the suspect then threw the satchel over a nearby fence and continued to refuse commands.
The suspect complied when additional taser deployment was enforced, police said.
The suspect was identified as 38-year-old East Palo Alto resident Jose Garciabarron. He is a convicted felon and had two outstanding warrants.
Officers found a loaded Glock pistol with a round in the chamber and a drum magazine containing 36 rounds. The piston was stolen out of Pike County.
After Garcia Barron received medical treatment, he was taken to the San Mateo County Jail, where he was booked for his charges, which included the following:
