Bossier City public health emergencies: gases, damaged sewer manhole

The emergencies were due to the damage to gravity sewer manholes and lift stations caused by excessive use and corrosive H2S gases – commonly known as ‘sewer gas’ – a colorless, flammable gas with a rotten-egg odor, according to a recent Bossier City Council ordinance.

Ordinance number 66 details the needed emergency support to rehabilitate the influent sewer manhole and replace the Boardwalk lift station discharge manifolds and support brackets, which will cost $77,220.90 to repair.

On May 20, the Bossier City Council and Mayor appropriated funds from the Sewer Capital and Contingency Fund.

The 2025 Sewer Capital and Contingency Budget is hereby amended to increase expenditures for required repairs by $77,220.90 and decrease Fund Balance by $77,220.90.

The ordinance was motioned by Brian Hammons and seconded by Vince Maggiano. The City Council noted the ordinance was discussed and open to public input on Tuesday, May 20.
