Traffic stop results in drugs, weapons seizure in Rockford

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford Police arrested William Chatman, 43, for illegally possessing a firearm, among other charges.

On May 29, around 11 p.m., officers saw a vehicle with an out-of-date registration that failed to stop in front of a stop sign, according to court records. The car proceeded to turn left onto 7th Avenue.

Authorities pulled the suspect’s vehicle over near 19th Street and 7th Avenue. Police smelled raw cannabis when they approached the car, court records show.

When officers searched the vehicle further, they found cannabis, cocaine and a loaded pistol.

Chatman is charged with possession of a weapon by a felon, aggravated unlawful possession of a loaded weapon in a vehicle without a FOID and delivering cocaine.
