Temperatures to soar Friday across Bay Area

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — The San Francisco Bay Area is expected to see its highest temperatures of the year so far on Friday. Much of the region is under a heat advisory, which goes into effect Friday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures are likely to reach 104 degrees, weather officials said. The interior Bay Area and Central Coast are expected to receive the brunt of the high heat.

In the East Bay, Antioch, Concord and Livermore will encroach triple digits. Novato and Napa in the North Bay will see temperatures climb into the mid 90s. South Bay temperatures may also reach into the 100s, with Morgan Hill forecasted at 99.

Officials urge residents to take extra precautions when outside in the intense heat, including staying hydrated and taking extra breaks.

Dry and windy conditions, which are expected through Saturday, can make it easier for fires to start and spread rapidly, NWS said. To prevent wildfires from sparking, the agency suggests properly extinguishing cigarette butts, keeping water stored near campfires and grills, avoid using equipment that creates sparks and securing tow chains to ensure they aren’t dragging.

The heat spike is not expected to last, with a cooldown coming Sunday and early next week, according to weather officials.
