Storms on the horizon: Big Country braces for severe weather again tonight

BIG COUNTRY, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – Residents across the Big Country should stay weather-aware tonight as severe thunderstorms are expected to roll through the area.

Most of our region is currently under an Enhanced Risk (Level 3 of 5) for severe weather, meaning multiple storms could become intense or widespread.

What does this mean for us?

In simple terms, we could see all types of severe weather tonight. This includes:

• Heavy rainfall
• Strong, potentially damaging winds
• Large hail
• The possibility of an isolated tornado

Stay weather-aware and have multiple ways to receive warnings.

What does the timeline of these storms look like?

Tonight’s Timeline:

• Thursday 8:00 p.m.
  Scattered storms may begin to develop, with the most significant risk of stronger storms expected in our western counties.
• Thursday 9:30 p.m.
  The main squall line develops, accompanied by a few minor cells ahead of it.
• Thursday 11:00 p.m.
  The main line of storms has just passed over the Key City and is headed to portions of the Heartland.
• Friday 2:00 a.m.
  Strong storms exit the main regions of the Big Country.
• Friday 9:00 a.m.
  Rainfall exits the main regions of the Big Country.

As of 3:50 p.m. on Thursday, the National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for some of our western counties; however, additional watches may be added in the coming hours.
