Robbery suspect killed in shootout with Hickory Hills police

HICKORY HILLS, Ill. (WGN) — A robbery suspect is dead following a shootout with police in the southwest suburbs overnight.

The incident began after Hickory Hills police responded to a report of an armed robbery near 95th Street and South Roberts Road, just before 9 p.m. on Thursday.

When officers arrived on the scene, they said they encountered a suspect who was allegedly armed with a gun.

Officers said the suspect then opened fire in their direction, but he fled after officers returned fire.

Authorities later found the suspect, who had suffered a gunshot wound to his head, in a nearby alley. He was later pronounced dead.

One of the officers involved in the incident suffered minor injuries but has since been released from the hospital.

Police have not yet identified the suspect killed and Illinois State Police are conducting an investigation in coordination with the Cook County Medical Examiner.
