Police arrest man accused of luring people online to rob them at gunpoint

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Police arrested a suspect accused of luring victims in a series of armed robberies in the LSU area this spring.

Vennie Elphage, 23, of Belle Chasse, was arrested after detectives found a connection between three cases. He was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals on Sunday, May 25, at Ben Hur Avenue. Police said he was found with a weapon and stolen items.

He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of three counts of armed robbery with a firearm and one count of possession of schedule I narcotics. 

According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, he has previously faced charges of burglary, fraud, robbery, theft and illegal possession of stolen things.
