The Illinois Department of Transportation announced Thursday that traffic leaving downtown will be able to use both the express and local lanes to continue to I-90 and O’Hare starting Saturday, May 31, weather permitting.
According to IDOT, express lane access to O’Hare is opening a month ahead of schedule.
The express lane closures have been part of the ongoing rehabilitation of the Kennedy Expressway from the Edens Expressway junction to Ohio Street. Since the final year of the Kennedy project started in March, drivers leaving downtown had to stay in the local lanes to access O’Hare.
