The Mariposa County Sheriff’s Animal Control says Chance, a dun gelding estimated to be between 17 and 20 years old, was found abandoned deep in the forest “facing an uncertain future.”
The horse, described as one with “a heart as big as the Mariposa skies,” was rescued by the Mariposa County Animal Control and Search and Rescue.
“With care, compassion, and a whole lot of love, Chance has been rehabbing with us for several months, and now he’s ready for a second chance, and maybe, with you, his forever home,” officials wrote in a social media post.
According to the sheriff’s animal control, Chance is easy to saddle, with old scars that “tell a story of a life once spent on the trails,” has up-to-date vaccines, dental care and hoof trims and has been vet-checked and given a “clean bill of health.”
