A low pressure system parked over Richmond, Indiana kept skies cloudy and brought widely scattered showers to central Indiana Wednesday. A few sprinkles will fall this evening and patchy fog will develop across the state after Midnight. Temperatures will stay mild this evening and overnight as lows fall into mid to upper 50s.

Thursday will be a cloudy day with several dry hours and a chance for isolated showers in the afternoon. Not everyone will see rain from the shower chances tomorrow. Temperatures are going to be slightly warmer and reach into the lower 70s. Another wave of rainfall pushes into the region late Thursday night and Friday. Rainfall will be heavier and more widespread Friday and up to an inch of rain is likely.

At this point in the season, rain is not something we need. We’ve already had 4.31″ of rain this month and going back to March first, we’ve had 14.96″ of rain, almost three inches above average. Rainfall this Spring has been more plentiful south of I-70 where there is a rainfall surplus. North of I-70, 37% of the state is reporting Abnormally Dry soil conditions, the first stage of drought. 9% of the state north of I-70 is Moderate Drought, the second stage of drought.

Once this weather system moves out, we dry out and warm up for the weekend. Expect sunny skies with high temperatures near 80° by Sunday. Highs in the 80s return for the start of June with mostly sunny skies next Monday and Tuesday.

The pollen count and the UV Index were in the moderate range Wednesday.

This has been a month and a wet Spring for central Indiana but it has been dry north of I-70.

Scattered showers are likely late Thursday.

Rain will be heavier and more widespread Friday.

After a wet Thursday and Friday, the weekend will be dry.

Temperatures will stay below average through the end of May.

The 6 to 10 day outlook is predicting a warm, dry weather pattern.
