Todd Walker is a National College Baseball Hall of Famer who helped the Tigers win a national championship in 1993.
“No doubt, the most important because he keeps me at a level head. He keeps me not getting too big, not getting too down on myself. And that’s been throughout the season. You know, I’ll have a game or a weekend that let’s say I go for three oh from four. I’ll text him what I’m feeling, what I think I did wrong, and he’ll just talk me through it, walk me through the mental aspect of things, and how to come back tomorrow and be a better player,” says Houston Christian junior Jack Walker.
Our first exposure to Jack Walker was the spring of 2021.
Walker and the Byrd Yellow Jackets fell to Jesuit in the Division I Select state championship.
His current teammate and former Blue Jay, Ryan Porche, was the winning pitcher in that game.
“If I ever made him mad, he would bring it up. Like, ‘Oh, remember when I pitched in the state championship and y’all had like three hits?’ Not cool, but that’s neither here nor there,” added Walker.
Walker spent last year at Delgado, and while he helped the Dolphins win their 14th straight Region XXIII title, he was able to learn from head coach Joe Scheuermann.
Walker considers Scheuermann one of the best in the business.
“He does it all right, man. He pushed me to be a better player. He pushed these guys that I’m living with to be better players. He’s got that fire in him, you know. He’ll get on you for sure, but it’s in the right way and it makes you a better player in the end. I wouldn’t be where I am without him, for sure,” said Walker.
Jack Walker was one of three Dolphins (Walker Bazile and Remy Marsh) added to the Houston Christian roster for the 2025 season. This year, he’s been one of the Huskies’ top sluggers in their run to a Southland tournament championship series win over UNO and the program’s first NCAA tournament berth since 2015.
“It’s been so special, man. We’ve had guys come up in big spots. We’ve had pitchers get up there and really show that they want it. A lot of blood, sweat, and tears have just been poured into the ins and outs of everyday at practice. Just working hard throughout the day, and we were finally able to cash those checks,” said Walker.
Now the six-seed out of the Southland Conference prepares for its next postseason test, a rematch with Texas on the opening day of the Austin regional.
Houston Christian and Texas will meet Friday at 1 p.m.
