Muncie EMS chief placed on ‘administrative leave’ after reported charges

MUNCIE, Ind. — Officials with the city of Muncie said the city’s EMS chief has been placed on administrative leave after they became aware of charges recently filed against him.

According to a news release from the city of Muncie, officials said Wesley Miller, the city’s EMS chief, was recently charged in relation to alleged crimes. The city said the that the allegations are not connected to Miller’s city duties and “did not occur within Muncie or Delaware County.”

The city of Muncie confirmed that Miller was charged in Jay County on Tuesday for residential entry and domestic battery, each a Level 6 felony.

Court documents allege that Miller reportedly broke into his ex-wife’s house and grabbed his ex-wife in an incident surrounding the visitation of their child.

The documents said that Miller reportedly made threats via text message, which caused the ex-wife to tell him that he was not taking the child. Miller reportedly told his ex-wife that she “better have (the child) ready and outside for him or (Miller) was going to kick-in the door.”

The ex-wife told police that her home was “shut and unlocked” when Miller “pounded on the door and then entered the residence without permission.” Miller then reportedly “demanded” that the child come with him and he tried to grab the child.

The documents allege that during the incident, Miller grabbed his ex-wife by the upper left arm. The ex-wife later told police that she felt light pain and discomfort during this incident. Another family member of the ex-wife later came into the room and told Miller he needed to leave, and he then left the home.

The city said placing Miller on administrative leave “allows for a comprehensive review of the situation while maintaining the integrity of our public services.”

“The City of Muncie will continue to monitor the situation closely,” the release said. “We remain committed to upholding the trust and confidence of our community and ensuring accountability at all levels of municipal operations.

“As this is an ongoing matter, we will refrain from further comment until the investigation is complete,” the release concluded.
