Pleasant Grove baseball just one series away from making dreams come true

TEXARKANA, TX (KTAL/KMSS) — Pleasant Grove baseball is looking for its first state title since 2021, and the Hawks are one step closer to that goal with this week’s 4A-DI semi-state just a few days away.

“It’s huge for our school, it’s huge for our community and our program,” head coach Riley Fincher said. “Every time we step out on the field to start a new season, this is where our team expects to be, and the guys have earned that opportunity and we’re excited for them.”

While winning is a priority for the Hawks, another is to make sure the athletes are enjoying this time together.

“That’s the top thing here. They’re high school kids, they get to play this game here, at this great school but enjoy everything that they’ve earned, enjoy that they’re playing this late in the season, enjoy the stadiums we’re playing in and enjoy the time they have with each other,” Fincher said.

For the seniors on the team, just making it this far means so much.

“That’s everything, all I thought about for the four years I’ve been here,” senior Luke Flanagan said. “It means so much to me to be a part of a team like this.”

“It just means everything to me because it’s my senior year.” Jarret Halter said. “Ending out on a bang and hopefully we’ll make it to state, but fifth round, so good so far. But this week, we get to play at a nice venue, which is gonna be really cool, nice stadium. Just really looking forward to winning, honestly, making it to state. It’s all I ever dream of, and that’ll be pretty cool.”

Pleasant Grove will be playing Seminole on Thursday, May 29 and Friday, May 30 at Dr. Pepper Ballpark in Frisco. Both games will be played at 4 pm, the third game to be determined if needed.
