Players enjoying new Jefferson Parish pickleball courts this Memorial Day

METAIRIE, La. (WGNO) — Not everyone decided to get out of town to hit the beach this Memorial Day, many opted to stay in town and play pickleball at Jefferson Parish’s new multi-million-dollar pickleball complex at Mike Miley playground in Metairie.

There are nine new covered courts at the new pickleball complex, and it also has four uncovered courts.

Many players love the covered courts, especially on a hot day.

“Oh, the courts are great,” said Andrew Doran. “The great part about it is that they got a lot of shade, which makes it nice.”

Doran said that there are other great things about the new courts too.

“They really have a nice organizational system here too, based on your level of play,” Doran said. “You put your racket in at the level that you would play, and if you are a single player or have two or three players, they will find a fourth player to play with you.”

Another pickleball player, Mary Rose Walker, said, “It is so fun to play with people of all different skill levels. Good community, and good friends.”

You can make new friends like Andrew Tran, who will teach you how to play.

“Pickleball is like the best thing ever dude,” Tran said.

“I think people know where they want to play pickleball and this is the spot,” Walker said.

“I think this is a great investment for the parish,” Doran said. “I feel like they could double or triple the court size and still have a lot of people coming.”

The pickleball complex is free and open daily to the public from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and for players 12 and up.

The new courts are located at 500 Eisenhower Ave.
