At 4:45 a.m., on February 11th, 2022, Rockford Police officers were called to Schnucks Grocery Store at 3134 11th Street, for a robbery-in-progress.
According to the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office, Daisean Davis, 22, was armed with a semiautomatic pistol when he and an accomplice entered the store and demanded money from a locked safe.
Surveillance video presented in court showed Davis hitting an employee in the head with the gun, kicking him, and then striking the victim in the back with a hammer.
According to the original incident report from Rockford Police, two victims suffered injuries in the attack and had to be taken to the hospital.
Police said two handguns were found in a car in the Schnucks parking lot. The car was reportedly stolen earlier that morning from 3 Sons Auto Sales at 2523 Broadway.
Davis pleaded guilty to the charges of Armed Robbery and Aggravated Battery in August of last year.
He was previously accused of killing a 21-year-old during an armed robbery at a Charles Street Stop N’ Go store when he was 17. That case was later dismissed in court.
His co-defendant, Malik Gordon, 23, accepted a plea deal of negotiated charges of Armed Robbery with a Firearm in May 2023. He was sentenced to 19 years in prison.
