TBI investigating I-75 shooting involving Williamsburg officer, motorcycle chase

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. (FOX 56) — The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) is investigating a Sunday afternoon shooting involving a Williamsburg police officer.

According to the TBI, at 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 25, a chase ensued on I-75 involving a motorcycle and an officer with the Williamsburg Police Department and continued into Tennessee.

LATEST KENTUCKY NEWS:

Investigators said that near mile marker 158, the motorcyclist abruptly stopped, and the officer pulled in behind them. Then the driver reportedly backed into the officer’s vehicle before taking off and driving the wrong way in the southbound lane.

“For reasons still under investigation, the Williamsburg officer fired shots,” the TBI said in a press release.

The driver reportedly crashed in Anderson County, Tennessee, and was taken to the hospital.

The investigation is ongoing.
