The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources says the body of Alec Campbell, 38, was found after he went missing.
Investigators say this happened just before 1 p.m. on Friday at Tyler State Park in Newtown Township. Multiple crews began a search and rescue for a kayaker who flipped over, hit his head, and became unconscious in the water.
Officials say Tyler State Park will remain closed Monday and will reopen on Tuesday.
In honor of Campbell, Governor Josh Shapiro ordered flags at all Commonwealth facilities to be at half-staff on Tuesday.
Read the statement posted on X from Gov. Shapiro below:
Lori and I are praying for the family and friends of Alec Campbell, a DCNR Resource Ranger whose life was tragically cut short in Tyler State Park this weekend.
I’ve ordered flags at all Commonwealth facilities to half-staff this Tuesday in his honor.
As I told his wife Rena, we are eternally grateful for Alec’s service to his Commonwealth. May his memory be a blessing.
