SWEETWATER, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – The Sweetwater Fire Department officially unveiled its newest fire truck, Ladder 1, on May 22.

The traditional welcome for a new piece of fire equipment is to push it into its designated bay at the firehouse. The ladder truck has now joined Sweetwater FD’s fleet of engines, brush trucks, and command vehicles.

They organized an open house for firefighters and their families, with city officials present for the important event.

Sweetwater Fire Chief Tad Baird shared with KTAB/KRBC on how this may help the community of Sweetwater and its neighboring communities.

“Issue with accessibility to a hotel or a high-rise structure here in town, or even just simple roof access on a typical structure fire. We have this apparatus and piece of equipment here in town to provide for our community,” said Chief Baird.

Chief Baird went on to say that this new ladder truck will eliminate the need to rely on other departments for aerial apparatus.
