Police say burglar stops for snack break during early morning break-in

DISCLAIMER: All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – An early morning drug arrest led officers to uncover a burglar who they say had more on his mind than just stealing equipment.

Shreveport police received a call about a break-in at a local business just after 2:00 a.m.

Upon arrival, they discovered William Collins, 34, at the property. Although they could not immediately link him to the burglary, the department says Collins was found with drugs and arrested.

As the investigation began, it became clear to the officers that the man they arrested for drug-related crimes was, in fact, the burglar.

Surveillance footage reportedly showed William shattering the glass with a large rock and entering the building. Once inside, he helped himself to snacks before leaving with several pieces of computer equipment.

Following the investigation, William Collins was formally charged with one count of simple burglary, one count of criminal property damage, one count of trespassing, in addition to the narcotics charges from his initial arrest.
