42-year-old man shot and killed in altercation on Chicago’s South Side

CHICAGO — A 42-year-old man was shot and killed in an altercation on the South Side of Chicago late Friday afternoon.

Police say the man engaged in a verbal altercation with two people just before 4:30 p.m. at a business in the 7000 block of South Damen Avenue.

After the altercation became physical, police say a 38-year-old offender took out a gun and fired shots, hitting the victim four times. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The offender sustained a gunshot wound to his left hand, according to police. He was taken into police custody and transported to Christ Hospital in good condition.

The second offender fled westbound on 71st Street on foot and is not in custody, police say. Area One detectives are investigating.
