TANGIPAHOA PARISH, La. (WGNO) — The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office is currently on the search for a repeat escaped inmate.
Deputies were alerted at 10 p.m. on Thursday, May 22, that 19-year-old Tra’Von Johnson had escaped after receiving a call form the public asking if Johnson was still at the facility.
Johnson was in custody awaiting trial for his alleged role in a 2020 home invasion that left a man dead and the victim’s child injured.
An immediate headcount was conducted and through investigation, they determined he had left the facility around 4:30 p.m.
TPSO jail staff reported another inmate helped lift Johnson over the perimeter will and that he was the only one to escape.
Victims, family members and associates of Johnson have been alerted. Partnering law enforcement agencies are also assisting in the search.
Johnson is described as having brown eyes, black hair, stands at 5’5″ and weighs 120 lbs. He is from Tickfaw and has ties to the Hammond area.
Johnson was also one of four inmates who escaped the same facility during May of 2024.
Anyone with information on Johnson’s location or who may see him outside the parish can call TPSO dispatch center at 985-345-6150. If inside the parish call 911 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-554-5245.
