The average dog owner takes their furry friend on 5.4 walks a week, and the average walk is around 1.83 miles, per the study.
The City by the Bay was head of the list due to the high walkability score, park access, and good weather. There are currently more than 30 designated dog park areas throughout San Francisco, four of which are in Golden Gate Park. With all of the parks and city hills, a dog and its human can easily put in more than a mile each walk.
Another Bay Area city cracked the top 10 spot. San Jose holds the ninth spot for people with pups. The home of the Sharks earned a top ten position, due to its “sunny skies, a top-tier safety score, and strong walkability,” according to the study. San Jose also has nine dog parks.
The methodology Kuru Footwear used for the study was scoring the 50 most populous cities in 2025 by the average number of sunny days, WalkScore, ParkScore, safety score and dog ownership rate.
