BROWNWOOD, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) — A man convicted of burglary of a habitation in Brown County has been sentenced to life in prison.

After a contested hearing, Israel Cintron-Rivera was sentenced to life imprisonment and will be eligible for parole after serving 30 years.

A district attorney presented evidence that Cintron-Rivera violated his probation, issued in 2023, both within and outside of the jail. He committed another burglary offense while on probation and then several assaults while in the Brown County Jail.

Cintron-Rivera argues that his mental health issues justified his actions. However, documents indicate that he did not attend counseling as required by the terms of his probation. Additionally, a district attorney presented evidence that Cintron-Rivera had planned these attacks on officers and jailers.

If Cintron-Rivera is released on patrol, he must register as a lifetime sex offender.
