911 audio calls details unforgettable aftermath of London tornado

LONDON, Ky. (FOX 56) — The effect of Friday night’s tornado is an unforgettable moment.

In the obtained audio from the London-Laurel County 911 Center, victims and first responders detailed the seconds after the disaster hit.

“911…”

“Hello, we just got hit by the tornado… our roof is gone, the walls are gone,” one victim responded.

“A tornado just passed straight through here; we’ve got significant damage. I’ve got damage to multiple houses, roofs off of the houses; do an all call in this location right now,” another caller, believed to be an emergency official.

As the clock ticked, the sound of fear, pain, and shock flowed through the phones.

“Our house has been hit by a tornado; we need help. I got two kids. We’re trapped in the hallway under a mattress, me and my girls, and my husband—I can’t find him,” a mother on Meadowlane Road said.

“Everything is gone!” a victim on Philpot Road claimed.

“Is there anybody that was inside the residence?” 911 dispatch asked.

“They are all trapped, just across the road from me; they are all trapped. I can hear screaming,” they replied.

The tornado showed no remorse, leaving permanent scars for so many.

“I need an ambulance at the entrance of Sunshine Hills and 363 for a toddler and her mother that were in the tornado,” a responder said.

“I’m on Sunshine Hills Road. I have one female with an amputated foot. I need assistance, please,” a caller detailed.

Within minutes, the rumble was gone, yet the damage will take years for the London community to recover from.

“Please, ma’am, ma’am, are you sending help?” A woman cried.

“Yes, I am sending help to you,” the dispatcher responded.

The tornado has taken the lives of at least 19 victims.
