Police arrest man accused of armed robbery in Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Baton Rouge police arrested a man accused of robbing a woman at gunpoint.

The Baton Rouge Police Department said a woman was stopped in her car at S. Acadian Thruway and I-10 in April when an armed man approached her, pointed the handgun at her and forced her into his car. He reportedly took her keys, cash, phone and purse and fled the scene after releasing her.

Anthony Maggitt was identified as a suspect. He was arrested by U.S. Marshals on May 16 and charged with armed robbery with a firearm, aggravated kidnapping and access device fraud.

Police noted that Maggitt has been arrested previously on charges of:

  • Simple burglary
  • Simple battery
  • Possession of marijuana
  • Unauthorized use of a motor vehicle
  • Aggravated battery
  • Purse snatching
  • Simple robbery
  • Illegal possession of stolen things
  • Resisting an officer
  • Simple battery of the infirm
