Shortly after 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20, a Trooper with Utah Highway Patrol attempted to pull over a vehicle that was exceeding the speed limit on I-70 near Richfield, according to UHP. The driver allegedly fled, reaching top speeds of over 140 miles per hour.
Troopers successfully spiked the vehicle’s tires on the driver’s side. However, the driver continued for another three miles before one tire came apart, UHP said in a press release.
After about a 13-mile pursuit, a local officer prepared to deploy more spikes when the suspect attempted to evade the officer. The vehicle then rolled several times, ejecting the driver. The 63-year-old suspect reportedly died at the scene.
Sevier County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash.
