According to a press release, Indiana State Police were called to the intersection of County Road 400 South and State Road 3 around 4 p.m. to investigate a crash. When police arrived at the scene, they located a single-vehicle crash.
After their investigation, troopers determined the driver of the lone car involved in the incident had been travelling eastbound on County Road 400 South before the crash.
Police reported that the driver — who was later identified as 20-year-old Tyler J. Wells — lost control of a 2024 Mazda passenger vehicle on County Road 400 South near State Road 3. After losing control of the Mazda, Wells drove off the roadway and struck a tree. Once the Mazda made contact with the tree, it came to a stop.
Jennings County Coroner’s Office personnel pronounced Wells dead at the crash scene.
ISP reported that the intersection of State Road 3 and County Road 400 South was closed for nearly four hours to allow officials to clean up and investigate the crash.
Investigators believe speed may have been a factor in the crash.
