VTA Karina Court Station shut down due to suspicious package investigation

(KRON) — The Karina Court VTA light rail station in San Jose was shut down Tuesday morning due to a suspicious package. According to the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office, an investigation is underway near Karina Court and North First Street.

A shelter-in-place order was issued and later lifted for businesses in the area.

Officials got a call about the package just before 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. The device, according to SCCSO, was found near a bench at the station. It was described by authorities as a Thermos-type container with electronics attached to it.

North First Street between East Brokaw Road and Charcot Avenue was temporarily shut down due to the investigation but has since reopened. People are being advised to avoid the area until further notice.

Officials say that the bomb squad remains on the scene.
