MAHANOY CITY – For the first time in several years, the Gamewell fire alarm sounded here over the weekend.
Ward Electric worked Friday and Saturday to install the air horns at the Citizens Fire Co. firehouse on West Centre Street with the help of the fire company’s aerial truck.
The fire box system in town had been taken out of service when the borough-owned Teen Canteen building on East Centre Street was razed. The system was based there at the time.
After much debate and controversy over where the system would be reinstalled, the Citizens firehouse was selected.
A volunteer group led by Andy Gudinas and Mike Kitsock helped restore the system in Mahanoy City this Spring.
