Fire near San Leandro BART station prompts closure

(KRON) — The San Leandro BART station is shut down on Tuesday morning as firefighters respond to a fire in the area, according to the Bay Area Rapid Transit District. The closure was announced at 5:09 a.m.

BART service between Berryessa, Dublin/Pleasanton and Lake Merritt has stopped due to the fire, transit officials said. Passengers are advised to seek alternative forms of transportation.

The closure comes after BART said delays were developing on the Berryessa line in all directions due to the fire.

Reports to the California Highway Patrol incident log stated that there was a possible explosion at the San Leandro BART station. Fire was visible on the train tracks, per the report to CHP.

The Alameda County Fire Department was requested to respond.
