Disturbing new details about last week’s daytime murder near Fisherman’s Wharf. Court documents obtained by KRON4 suggest the man shot and killed may not have known he was being targeted.
Prosecutors have charged 44-year-old Abraham Torres with murder. In a motion to detain Torres until trial, prosecutors say that at the time of the shooting, surveillance video shows the following:
Police have said the wounded victim was able to drive a couple of blocks before coming to a stop outside the In-N-Out Burger off Leavenworth, where he died of his injuries. The victim has been identified as 61-year-old Chalay Saelee.
Court documents describe the victim as an “unarmed innocent man who is simply sitting in his vehicle at a red light.”
While Torres made his first court appearance on Friday, he did not enter a plea. But court documents say when he turned himself into police shortly after the shooting, he told police “it was me,” and an AR-style rifle with an ammunition magazine was found in the defendant’s car.
Torres did not enter a plea on Friday. He is due back in court on Tuesday morning
