Suspect in custody in deadly stabbing attack on Near West Side, source says

CHICAGO — A suspect is in custody in connection with a deadly Monday morning stabbing on the city’s Near West Side, a source tells WGN News.

The attack on the 2400 block of West Gladys Avenue left a 64-year-old man dead and prompted the closure of some lanes on Interstate 290, police say.

According to Chicago police, the man was in an alley when he was approached by an unknown man around 7:45 a.m. After an argument, police say the attacker took out a knife, stabbed the man multiple times and ran off.

The victim was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County where he was pronounced dead.

No other injuries were reported.
