Louisiana man charged after accidentally shooting himself, officials say

LOWVILLE, N.Y. (WWTI) – A 30-year-old Louisiana man is facing charges after allegedly shooting himself by accident.

According to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Department, Lucas Jones of Merryville, Louisiana was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, which is a Class E felony.

Authorities state that the incident happened just after 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 17 in the town of Lyonsdale.

In a press release from the department, Jones allegedly tried to “manipulate” a hand gun when it discharged into his own hand.

Jones was transported to the hospital with minor injuries and the Lewis County Health System alerted law enforcement of the shooting.

The weapon was seized and Jones was issued an appearance ticket answerable to the Town of Lyonsdale Court for a later date.
