At around 7:24 a.m. on Monday, the department posted on social media that there is a large police presence near the 600 block of Woodruff Place. Individuals are asked to avoid the area.
This comes after multiple police runs were issued at around 6:30 a.m. Monday in the area on a reported shooting. In an update from IMPD, officials said this police presence was in reference to a shots fired investigation.
In a social media update, the department identified two suspects possibly related to the investigation as a man in a black hoodie with tan or gray pants, and a man in a gray or white top with black pants.
In an update from Tommy Thompson with IMPD, he said that officers found an adult man who was shot just before 6:30 a.m. on Monday. The man is in stable condition. During a preliminary investigation, officers believe a vehicle was reported stolen, a vehicle which has sense been located.
Thompson said there continues to be two suspects involved in the shooting. Thompson expects for the large police presence to continue at the location “for some time” as officers are looking for the two suspects.
Detectives believe that both involved parties fired shots and that this incident “may” have been targeted.
“Please continue to avoid the area and call 911 if you see anything suspicious or matching this description,” the department said in the update.
Multiple schools were placed under lockdown as the investigation into the incident occurred. The lockdowns have since been lifted.
