Minneapolis police have arrested a man on suspicion of fatally striking a bicyclist while under the influence early Monday morning.
Law enforcement was called to the intersection of Hiawatha Avenue and East 35th Street around 3 a.m. on a report of a crash involving a bicycle, police said.
At the crash scene, a man in his 50s was found lying in the road with apparent life-threatening injuries. Minneapolis police said he was brought to the hospital, where he died. His identity has not been released.
An initial investigation indicated that 23-year-old Diallo Greer was in a Ford Edge heading south on Hiwatha Avenue when he hit the bicyclist near East 35th Street, Minneapolis police said.
Greer was arrested and brought to Hennepin Healthcare before being booked into Hennepin County Jail on suspicion of criminal vehicular homicide.
Law enforcement added that Greer is suspected of driving under the influence.
