Fairfield officer shoots carjacking suspect: PD

(KRON) – A Fairfield officer shot a suspect who pointed a gun at police early Sunday morning, according to authorities.

Around 5 a.m., the Fairfield Police Department was alerted to a vehicle involved in a possible carjacking entering the city. The car was allegedly stolen out of Vacaville. 

According to the Vacaville Police Department, their officers responded to the 800 block of Beelard Avenue for the carjacking and found a victim. Per the Vacaville PD, the suspects fired eight rounds at a victim. Fortunately, the victim was not struck. The victim self-transported to the hospital for his injuries. Officers also located several shell casings. However, they did not find any other victims or property damage.

Fairfield PD officers located the vehicle near Dover and East Tabor avenues, and two men left the car. As officers approached the suspects, one continued to walk away, and the other ran. Fairfield PD said the remaining suspect ignored the authorities and then pointed his gun at an officer. Police said the officer responded by “firing at the man who sustained at least one gunshot wound.”

Arriving officers rendered aid to the suspect, said Fairfield PD. He was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive. 

There were no officers injured, per police. 

The other suspect was located and apprehended.
