ACSO investigating deadly shooting on Whaley St.

AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. (WJBF) – The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Coroner’s Office are investigating a shooting death.

At approximately 2:24 Monday morning, law enforcement was called to a home in the 100 block of Whaley Street in reference to a shooting incident. The Coroner responded 6 minutes later.

Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables has identified the victim as 53-year-old Cherie Hewitt. Authorities say Ms. Hewitt was found unresponsive inside the home and pronounced deceased on scene at 3:10 a.m. from a single gunshot wound.

The victim will be autopsied in Newberry, S.C. later this week.
