At around 1:59 a.m., San Francisco police responded to the area of Sunset Boulevard and Rivera Street regarding a two-vehicle car crash.
SFPD said the victim’s vehicle had three adult occupants, who were taken to the hospital by paramedics. One of the occupants has sustained life-threatening injuries, and the other two have non-life-threatening injuries.
The other car had two occupants, who were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
SFPD said that through the investigation, it was discovered that the driver of the second car was driving under the influence of alcohol. The driver was identified as San Francisco resident Ryan Kwong.
Kwong is currently employed as an SFPD officer who recently entered field training, according to police.
The San Francisco Chief of Police said, “This incident was incredibly tragic, and my heart goes out to the injured victims,” said Scott. “We will do everything in our power to ensure justice is served in this case. No one is above the law, and our officers know they are expected to obey the law, as well as our strict code of conduct even while off duty.”
