Nyamca Tolefree, 29, faces one felony count of failure to report an accident/death and one misdeameanor count of driving under the influence of alcohol.
Police said she was also cited with carrying alcohol in a vehicle, failure to reduce speed and exercise due care to avoid an accident.
The crash happened just before 9:30 p.m. Tuesday near the 7000 block of South Western Avenue. Officers said the victim, a 76-year-old man, was in the street in the area when he was struck by a northbound silver SUV, which was being driven by Tolefree.
The victim suffered significant injuries in the crash and was later taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Tolefree fled the scene but was arrested about an hour later on the 2700 block of West State Street, after being identified as the offender who fatally struck the man crossing the street.
Tolefree is scheduled to appear in court Friday.
