Speegle, who has 20 years of experience in elementary education, is currently serving as an assistant principal in Aubrey ISD.
“I am excited to welcome Melissa Speegle to Abilene ISD,” Superintendent Dr. John Kuhn said. “Melissa has a strong track record of achieving positive student outcomes and bringing diverse school communities together to do what is best for kids. I look forward to supporting her as she builds on the strong culture of positivity and collaboration at Alcorta Elementary.”
Speegle’s career began in 2005; she taught kindergarten, first grade, third grade, and fourth grade. She later served as the elementary language arts and reading coordinator. In 2017, she served as an assistant principal at Little Elm ISD before taking the same position at Decatur ISD. In 2020, she took on the role of elementary school principal at Paradise ISD.
“I am truly grateful for the opportunity to lead and serve the Alcorta community,” Speegle said. “Alcorta has a proud tradition of academic excellence and a strong sense of community. I look forward to working collaboratively with our dedicated teachers and staff, supportive families, and most importantly, our amazing students.”
Speegle earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Texas and a master’s degree in educational leadership and policy studies from the University of Texas at Arlington. The current principal of Alcorta, Michele Josselet, will be transitioning to serve as the principal of Clack Middle School.
