TEA Ratings: Despite showing improvement, Abilene ISD still has several ‘D’-rated campuses

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – Abilene ISD still has several campuses that received a ‘D’ letter grade from the Texas Education Agency despite showing improvement at other schools.

The Texas Education Agency released accountability ratings Friday for all districts and schools across the state.

Abilene ISD overall received a C(75) rating, but five campuses – Bowie Elementary, Clack Middle School, Madison Middle School, Mann STEAM Academy, and Martinez Elementary – received D ratings.

Ortiz Elementary, which was closed by Abilene ISD at the end of the 2024-2025 school year, received an ‘F’ rating from the TEA.

The breakdown for each AISD campus is as follows:

  • Abilene HS – B(86)++
  • ATEMS – A(94)!
  • Alcorta Elementary – B(81)++
  • Austin Elementary – B(82)++
  • Bassetti Elementary – C(78)!
  • Bonham Elementary – B(85)++
  • Bowie Elementary – D(63)++
  • Clack Middle School – D(66)+
  • Cooper High School – C(79)+
  • Craig Middle School – B(80)+
  • Dyess Elementary – C(74)!
  • Long Early Learning Center – C(75)+
  • Madison Middle School – D(65)!!
  • Mann STEAM Academy – D(66)+
  • Martinez Elementary – D(63)!
  • Ortiz Elementary – F(59)!!
  • Purcell Elementary – C(77)++
  • Stafford Elementary – C(78)!
  • Taylor Elementary – C(77)++
  • Thomas Elementary – C(72)+
  • Ward Elementary – C(76)!
  • Woodson Center for Excellence – B(82)!

***The symbols compare each rating to the previous school year (2023-2024). ‘++’ means the campus went up an entire letter grade, ‘+’ means the campus went up in numerical score, ‘!!!’ means the campus went down two entire letter grades, ‘!!’ means the campus went down an entire letter grade, and ‘!’ means the campus went down in numerical score.

13 campuses showed improvement over the 2023-2024 school year, and 9 campuses had a decreased performance.

Ratings are issues on criteria such as Student Achievement, School Progress, and Closing the Gaps.
