The institution released a brief statement on Corsaro’s dismissal just after noon on Tuesday.
“The IU Indianapolis Athletics Department has announced a change in leadership of the men’s basketball program, effective immediately,” IU Indy administrators wrote in their prepared statement. “A national search will begin for the next head men’s basketball coach.”
Corsaro coached just one season at IU Indy before he was fired. Corsaro’s squad went 10-22 overall and 6-14 in Horizon League play.
Corsaro took over for Matt Crenshaw ahead of the 2024-25 season. Crenshaw coached the Jaguars from the 2021-22 season to the 2023-24 season.
Corsaro issued a statement on his firing around 7 p.m. Tuesday. Corsaro’s statement seemed to indicate his termination had something to do with alleged mistreatment of student-athletes.
“The University’s decision today is deeply disheartening,” Corsaro wrote in a post on X. “I vehemently deny the alleged mistreatment of student-athletes and will vigorously defend the reputation I have worked tirelessly to build.
“I am extremely disappointed that the University issued a statement this morning without having first being afforded the opportunity to file a written appeal, as per the terms of my contract and which I intend to do.”
Corsaro went on to write that he had been cooperative with an IU Indy investigation. He indicated that he provided documentation that refuted “unfair allegations” against him.
Corsaro also wrote that IU Indy officials have not given him any documentation that substantiates allegations brought against him. Corsaro indicated that he made multiple requests for documents related to the university’s investigation.
“The unwavering dedication of our student-athletes and staff this past season has been instrumental in establishing a solid foundation for our program,” Corsaro wrote. “We fostered a strong culture, the significance of which was regrettably overlooked by some. Our achievements both on the court and in the classroom this year, underscored by the impressive retention of our roster for the upcoming season, truly speak to the strength of this foundation.
“Over the last several weeks, I held onto my faith in the University’s process and remained confident, until today, that I would have the privilege of continuing to the IU Indy men’s basketball team. My focus now is on clearing my name and rebuilding the reputation that has been unfairly damaged.”
As of this article’s publication, it is unclear if any members of the coaching staff Corsaro assembled will remain at IU Indy or if the school will choose to part ways with them. IU Indy’s men’s basketball coaches page lists Mike Burris, Tony Wills and Keith Oddo as members of its 2025-26 staff.
As of this article’s publication, no additional information on Corsaro’s termination had been made available.
