Monday morning, the governor helped open the doors to the new $20 million technical center and $17 million elementary school.
The Cannonsburg Elementary School’s classrooms have been remodeled, and a new parking lot has been added behind the building to help with traffic flow through the area.
As for the career and technical center, the new state-of-the-art facility is located just behind the Boyd County High School.
BCTC Director Courtney Bartley says this allows for more convenient learning spaces and job-readiness opportunities to get students ready for the workforce.
“We’re going to have industrial maintenance, we have health science to put some nurses out into this area, welders, auto mechanics, business students, and computer tech students,” Bartley says.
Beshear said having updated facilities and available job-readiness opportunities is crucial in making sure these students move forward on their educational journey.
“Today is a about a major investment in public education. The ribbon cutting is the reality, it means that kids are now getting this benefit, it means people are going to be able to pursue their pathways. So, today is the true day to celebrate because now the lives of these kids are going to be better as are the lives of every other kid that comes through,” Beshear says.
The elementary students will be moving into their new facility this coming school year.
Teachers will be moving equipment into the new technical center over the Summer and their classes are expected to begin Fall of 2025.
