Controversial rapper Tory Lanez hospitalized after prison stabbing

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – Canadian rapper Tory Lanez, who is serving a 10-year prison sentence for shooting artist Megan Thee Stallion, was reportedly stabbed by another inmate Monday at a California state prison.

According to a report from TMZ, Lanez, whose legal name is Daystar Peterson, was attacked while in the yard at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi on May 12. He was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Bakersfield for treatment with non-life-threatening injuries.

Lanez was convicted in December 2022 on three felony counts: assault with a semi-automatic firearm, carrying a loaded and unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence. He was sentenced in August 2023 and will be eligible for parole in 2029.

Shreveport residents may remember Lanez’s visit to the city in March 2021, when he handed out cases of his “Umbrella Water” as part of a community relief effort. The bottled water initiative was created to help areas dealing with natural disasters and clean water shortages.

Lanez announced the stop on social media at the time, posting, “I’m adding ‘Shreveport’ to the ‘UMBRELLA WATER’ DROP OFF LIST.”

During his visit, he was also seen on Instagram playing basketball with local residents.

The effort was well-received locally, with many praising Lanez for personally showing up to help.

As of Tuesday morning, Lanez’s legal team and prison officials have not released any public statements about the incident. The motive behind the attack is still under investigation.
