NATCHEZ, Miss. (WJTV) – A suspect was critically injured during a shooting involving Natchez police, authorities said.

The shooting occurred on South Canal Road on May 11, 2025.

According to Bailey Martin, press secretary for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (DPS), officers were attempting to serve a warrant. When they arrived at the location, Martin said the suspect displayed a firearm, which resulted in an exchange of gunfire between the suspect and police.

Martin said the unidentified suspect sustained critical injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. No officers were injured during the shooting.

Agents with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) are investigating the shooting and will share their findings with the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office.
