The crash happened at the intersection 9th and Main Streets around 11:59 p.m. The driver of the vehicle involved in the incident — a 2017 Ram 1500 pickup truck — did not stop at the scene of the crash, but was followed by a witness and later apprehended by police in Windfall. The pickup truck’s driver has been identified as 77-year-old Michael A. Carnes of Frankfort.
The crash victim was taken to St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood after the crash. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the crash. Carnes consented to toxicology testing. The results of those tests are currently pending.
