Per the Bargersville Fire Department, crews responded to a crash at the intersection of Old Plank Road and Carlisle Street around 5 a.m. When first responders made it to the scene, they found a motorist who had crashed a car into a garage.
The Johnson County Coroner’s Office identified the driver who died in the crash as 16-year-old Elijah Patrick Mobley of Indianapolis.
The Bargersville Police Department indicated that an off-duty sheriff’s deputy in his personal car saw Mobley driving erratically on State Road 144 with a blown tire before the crash.
While officers were enroute to investigate the off-duty deputy’s report, Mobley lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the garage.
Alcohol may have been a factor in the incident, as police reported that an open container was found in the vehicle Mobley was driving. BPD indicated the results of toxicology tests on Mobley are pending.
