As prices continue to rise, even on basic baby essentials, the organization is stepping up the best way it knows how.
“We know that things are very expensive, especially these days, but we know that people are very generous when it comes to helping moms who are in need when they’re raising children. Everyone needs support at that time in their life, whether it’s a newborn or a two-year-old. They need support,” said Zagorski.
For the last five years, the organization has been putting on the event, and each year it’s grown.
The group collects diapers, wipes, baby shampoo and more, grateful for every donation that comes in.
“Mother’s Day is such a great time to show one of our pillars that Louisiana Rights To Life is service and helping women in the community. We get so much appreciation and gratitude from the mothers. This is what we are all about. Helping the New Orleans community see that they have support in Louisiana, not just from us, but also from the pregnancy resource centers in the area,” said Zagorski.
Packing diapers and wipes, new mom Riley Watkins says she knows how important it is to show up for other mothers.
“I’m happy to see young mothers thriving. I know how hard it is. Those first couple of months. Just in time. But yeah, being a mother is definitely giving me an appreciation for the hard work that moms do. And so I’m happy to hear and help them out with anything they need,” said Watkins.
And even after the holiday is over, assistance is still available.
“We’re always here for them. We always want to help them get connected to find a resource to help. To find a resource to help them. That’s not just with diapers, but that’s with housing needs. Clothing needs, those sort of things,” said Zagorski.
