Richmond neighborhood lockdown lifted, but suspect remains at large

(KRON) — A lockdown was ordered Wednesday afternoon in the area of Florida Avenue in Richmond due to police department activity. Officials advised people in the area of Florida Avenue, South 45th Street, Wall Avenue, and South 47th Street to lock down in the nearest place of safety.

According to the Richmond Police Department, there was a possible armed and barricaded suspect in the area. However, RPD says the scene has since been cleared, but the suspect, identified as Javon Hudson, remains at large.

“All clear for lockdown due to law enforcement activity in Richmond,” the Contra Costa County Community Warning System posted on X.

Hudson attempted to enter the home of the mother of his child with an assault rifle, according to RPD. Around 9:56 a.m., RPD officers responded to a report of the armed man who threatened the mother.

The mother and child were both able to escape unharmed, police said. The suspect was left alone inside the residence on the 4500 block of Florida Avenue where officers set up a perimeter around the home.

As of 5:30 p.m., Hudson remains outstanding, according to RPD. No suspect information was released by RPD at this time. An assault rifle was recovered at the scene (photo below).

People were advised to go inside, close and lock all windows and doors. People were also being advised to stay off the phone and not call 911 unless you need to report a life-threatening emergency.

People were advised to remain inside until further instructions are issued. Police say that street closures and traffic delays are expected in the area.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
