According to Louisiana State Police, at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7, they responded to the scene of a four-vehicle crash involving 36-year-old Isiah Thomas.
An investigation revealed the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office attempted to pull over Thomas driving a Kia Optima, who deputies said was wanted in connection to an ongoing investigation.
Thomas reportedly refused to stop and fled, speeding north on Louisiana Highway 308 leading to a police chase.
Troopers said deputies stopped chasing Thomas but he continued to flee and attempted to pass a northbound Nissan Frontier in a no-pass zone. A Honda Accord was also headed south on the highway when Thomas collided head-on with them causing him to side swipe the Nissan and a Ford F-150.
Thomas who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene. The other drivers were wearing seatbelts and sustained minor to no injuries.
The crash remains under investigation as toxicology reports from all drivers are being tested.
